Sunday, August 13

Morning Worship Service — 10:00 a.m.

In Mark 2:1-12, a group comes to Jesus looking for him to heal a man’s paralysis, and Jesus responds by forgiving the man’s sin. But doesn’t Jesus tell us elsewhere not to blame a person’s sin for a person’s illness? (See John 9 and Luke 13). Why does Jesus speak forgiveness to the man suffering paralysis, and could it be that Jesus can tell you to stand up and walk into a new life? Come and join us for worship this Sunday to find out.

After the service, we will meet for coffee and refreshments in the Fellowship Hall.

Evening Fellowship — 6:30 p.m.

There will be no Evening Fellowship this week. We will resume at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 20, and we invite everyone to join us.

Sermon Series in September and October

During autumn 2017, Pastor Joel will preach a series of sermons about God forming us as branches on a family tree that goes back to Jesus. In September, we will explore how the Holy Spirit led the Church to formulate the doctrine of the Trinity. This doctrine, far from being dry or abstract, actually revealed that God is love and can further form us as a community of love. In October, we will explore themes related to the Reformation, which began in October 1517, 500 years ago. As with the Trinity, so with Reformational themes, we will experience them as transforming grace. Stay tuned for further previews.
